For this Baobab event we are bringing back some Roots Reggae to Wageningen. And that was about time!
PHD candidate and teacher at Wageningen University & Research and Out of the twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago emerges the reggae artist known as Verse Ital. The conscious singjay first made a name for himself in his homeland with songs like “Nyquil”, “Selassie I”, “BluePrint” and “Spring Water”. iTal quickly grew and was soon an opening act for Reggae greats such as Buju Official, Beres Hammond, Damian Marley, Jah Cure, Tarrus Riley and Cocoa Tea to name a few.
While performing and promoting “The Fullness” album throughout Europe in 2012, he reunited with the team that produced one of his tracks: “BluePrint”- Culture Rock from Germany. Together they performed and recorded new material including “Never Hurt” released in 2013; a song that took Verse to new heights. The blend of Culture Rock’s modern reggae sound and iTal’s delivery got listeners swinging from the first drop.
After a brief return to Trinidad, the artist relocated to Europe in 2013. He entered and won the Benelux Reggae Contest in 2014. He describes this victory as ‘career changing’.
In 2015, iTal released an EP entitled “Truth and Substance”, produced by Culture Rock which includes the enchanting piece, “Want No Part”.Just one listen and you will surely be hooked by the content and delivery of the entire EP.
2018 saw the rise of his new album 100% roots and is being well recieved by the audience. A good reason to bring him back to Wageningen in April. This show is part of the 100% tour in in which they are promoting their new album.
